Amy Beach (1867-1944) wrote the four short vignettes for piano in 1907 upon hearing an early recording of Inuit songs. She used eleven of these melodies and set them to harmonies of Western music with which she was familiar. Movements: 1. Arctic Night, 2. The Returning Hunter, 3. Exiles, and 4. With Dog-Teams.
